You know how it feels when you arrive at a party and don’t know ANYONE there… and then you see your friend! And it’s all good. Suddenly it’s a safe crowd and you can relax and have fun.
That’s how it is for me as a woodsman traveling across the South and exploring environments I’ve never seen before. Many of the plants and animals are so new to me. And yet… the ones I know… the ones who are flexible enough to live in harmony within multiple landscapes… offer an invitation to me to do the same.
There is a Song of Place. I’m learning this as I witness differences and similarities of nature and cultures while exploring the South.
I’m in North Carolina. These leaves are mostly from beech trees, reminding me of the ones I grew up with in Michigan.
